The highly anticipated debut of Dubwise Atlanta did not disappoint. There was an air of love and unity flowing as Atlantans came together for the special occasion, giving roots reggae a chance to flourish once again in town.
On this night I had the pleasure of playing alongside the international roots master Aba Shaka and out of Kingston, Yaardcore, one of the selectors credited with catalyzing and supporting Jamaica’s current reggae revival.
I began my round with classic shots from the Tuff Gong and Studio One labels, took excursions on the Heptones’ “We’re Gonna Fight” and the “M-16” riddims, and featured some contemporary dubwise selections with Chuck Fender and Everton Blender because variety is the spice of life.
Listen as the crowd gathers near the stage on the dance floor to sing along and dance to the melodies and deep sub-bass brought forth by the Space 2 sound system. Special vibes for a special night in Atlanta dancehall. Look out for Rocksteady ATL on July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th and every 1st Sunday at the Sound Table.
Experience what happened during my 30 minute guest DJ set at the #AllVinylEverything Memorial Day Weekend Day Party.
Atlanta, GA. – Sunday May 24th 2015, All Vinyl Everything delivered another star studded line-up of special guest DJs spinning nothing but the best music pressed on Vinyl.
No laptops, CDs, or DJ Controllers are ever allowed at this event! I selected a round of mostly 45 RPM 7″ inch singles from 1990’s and 1980’s dancehall to foundation reggae icons Dennis Brown and Tenor Saw in representation of the Reggae Lovers who were gathered, but also to introduce reggae music to new listeners.
Its was a holiday weekend and with no work on Monday, the who’s who of Atlanta turned out to play on Sunday at #AllVinylEverything! The venue, Noni’s on Edgewood Avenue offered indoor and outdoor bars along with food hot off the grill. Patrons came early as the music started at 4pm sharp and went until 9pm.Once a month from April through SeptemberAVE is hosted by Sean Falyon alongside DJ Dibiase, and brought to you by WGGP Events, BeATLab USA, AB+L Radio, Coalition DJs ATL, Scratch DJ Academy and Noni’s (357 Edgewood Ave Atlanta, GA)

On Sunday May 3rd at the Sound Table, I had the great pleasure of hosting another installment of Rocksteady, Atlanta’s only thriving roots reggae monthly event. Internationally renowned hit-making reggae singer Anthony Malvo and his lyrical dancehall deejay compadre Little Twitch of King Jammys Super Power Hi Fi and King Sturgrav Sound System fame made a live appearance, performing together for the first time in years! This was also the very first feature for Little Twitch in the ATL.
The energetic audience was transported back in time by nostalgic selections drawn from resident DJ Passport and special guest DJ Jah Prince of the Sunsplash radio mix-show and Smokin’ Needles Records. The stage and tone was set for me to play a few more songs and then call in the artists who escalated things from there like the true veterans they are.
This audio portion features Malvo and Twitch in combination as I spin the riddim tracks. It was a joyous occassion in which new listeners were given an authentic taste of what dancehall reggae has to offer since the 1980s, while veteran skankers were provided with a mouth-watering feast of vibes for their own consumption.
